Two dead, six critical after LPG gas leak causes fire in Durgapur

A devastating incident unfolded in Durgapur as a fire broke out in the storeroom of a renowned sweet shop, resulting in two fatalities and critical condition for six individuals. The cause of the tragedy was identified as a gas leakage from an LPG cylinder stored in the same room. The deceased have been identified as Bidhan Mandal and Atanu Ruidas, both residents of Beliatore in Bankura district, West Bengal.

Local authorities reported that the accident likely occurred between late Sunday night and Monday morning. An employee, sensing danger, managed to send an SOS call to the sweet shop owner before losing consciousness. Upon reaching the site, the owner discovered the locked storeroom with no response, prompting him to break in and find the victims. The preliminary investigation points to gas leakage in a poorly ventilated space as the primary cause of the tragic incident.
